Join TAPC's Cindy Kinney as we discuss the book that launched Kingsolver's brilliant career. Barbara Kingsolver's first novel, The Bean Trees, is pure delight. Taylor Greer grew up in rural Kentucky. She heads west after high school. By the time she reaches Arizona and her car breaks down she has acquired a three-year-old Native American child whom she names Turtle. She is forced into motherhood and a need to provide some stability for herself and Turtle. It is a story of love, friendship, abandonment and belonging.
